    • Lessons From My Heart

      $15.61

Helen Funderburgh Kimble is an international traveler with a major airline for over forty years. She is a native-born Texan from Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from The University of North Texas with a BA in English and a minor in Latin. She also studied on her master’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Dallas. She resides with her husband, John and her two dogs, Brandy and Bailey, in the Southlake, Texas area.

The author shows that if we stop along the journey of life because we are hurt, sick, angry or just stuck, we are only selling ourselves short. This book on the whole gives the readers the best possible answer they can consider in the absence of a reason “why”. Things happen in life that we can’t expect, don’t deserve and can’t understand, but we will only rob ourselves if we throw our hands up and dig our heels in. Choosing to move on opens doors that would not be possible if we give up.

The author suggests that the reader enjoy this book in a couple of different ways. The reader can read this book in the normal way, peruse the book, and consider each biblical reference at the end of each chapter. At that point the reader can decide how he or she would have handled the situations in the book in their own way. The reader can use this knowledge to apply to any circumstance they may encounter in the future. May you enjoy reading this book and gain insight, knowledge, and wisdom for future encounters.

    • Captive In Iran

      $18.99

Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh knew they were putting their lives on the line. Islamic laws in Iran forbade them from sharing their Christian beliefs, but in three years, they’d covertly put New Testaments into the hands of twenty thousand of their countrymen and started two secret house churches.

In 2009, they were finally arrested and held in the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran, a place where inmates are routinely tortured and executions are commonplace. In the face of ruthless interrogations, persecution, and a death sentence, Maryam and Marziyeh chose to take the radical-and dangerous-step of sharing their faith inside the very walls of the government stronghold that was meant to silence them. In Captive in Iran, two courageous Iranian women recount how God used their 259 days in Evin Prison to shine His light into one of the world’s darkest places, giving hope to those who had lost everything and showing love to those in despair.

    • Sing Over Me

      $23.68

Since 1988, I’ve been publicly sharing the story of how I walked out of a perceived homosexual identity. Why? Because I remember being a boy wondering if freedom was possible. The church didn’t have answers. The world didn’t have answers. The gay community just tried to make me give up and accept this as my innate identity. Yet, something deep inside of me kept knocking at the door of my heart saying, “There must be more. This cannot be your ultimate destiny and identity.” When God met me with the Truth of the transforming power of Jesus Christ, and I began what I call my incredible journey, I began to realize that I’d been lied to by the world and the philosophies of man. After seven years of freedom under my belt, the Lord asked me to begin publicly sharing my story because there were others out there who felt the same as I felt-that there must be more. This book is for those who want to experience God in an intimate, life-changing way, regardless of whether or not they’ve ever struggled with unwanted same-sex attraction. This is my story, yet really it’s the story of redemption found in knowing Jesus Christ intimately. –Dennis Jernigan

    • When Quitting Is Not An Option

      $19.95

      Castle Quay Books
Can I do this? I asked myself. I’d been repeating the same question for the last 24 hours. People seem to say, “It’s Arvid-of course he can do it.” If they knew how many times I struggled with self-doubt, with the question of whether I should bike another kilometre, they would never feel so confident. This was one of those times. Giving up now was, for me, symbolic of giving up on the kids at MCF. Many of them had been abandoned by parents, relatives and society, left to fend for themselves. God had never given up on them, and I was not going to quit a silly bike ride. I made up my mind: I will not give up. When Arvid set out on a 40 km bike ride only to give up after 30 km, his future as a cyclist seemed bleak. Yet, more than 15 years later, Arvid was racing alongside the world’s most elite ultra-marathon athletes. This is his story of failure, courage, disappointment, triumph and laughter-and a few life lessons along the way.

If beauty is only skin-deep, then why does the color of that skin matter so much? Why does it create dividing lines within one’s own race, community, and even the family?

From birth, Jinnie was darker than her siblings, and relatives unthinkingly punished her for it. She learned early that those with lighter skin-tones in the black community were considered smarter, prettier, and more worthy. The race war was just as fierce within the black community as it was between blacks and whites, but in more subtle ways, with fewer options to find success.

Despite the constant obstacles, Jinnie earned scholarships, left home, and entered a new world, where the age-old battle of skin-tone continued. She blossomed as she learned that designations such as “blue-black” and “pitch-black” didn’t automatically mean failure. Her outer beauty increased as her inner beauty grew stronger.

However, it wasn’t until she discovered the battle in her own heart, mind, and soul, and trusted in Christ’s power, that she found peace, healing, and victory in the most vital war of all.

    • Extremist For Love

      $40.00

In an era where people are often sorted into the categories of ‘thinker’ and ‘doer’, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stands out – a rare mix of the deeply profound thinker and intellect who put the fruit of that reflection into the service of direct social action.
In this helpful telling of King’s life, Dr. Rufus Burrow knits together the story of King’s family, his intellectual journey, and his experience of the pervasive racism of America in that era in a way that highlights the onnections between King’s thought and his actions.

The result is a renewed understanding of the roots of King’s actions and a fresh appreciation for how intellectual activity can impact our world in surprisingly direct ways.

      Me

      I sometimes fear

      That people cannot understand

      That I hear.

      And I know

That they don’t believe I go

      To every extreme

      To try to express

      My need to talk.

      If only they could walk

      In my shoes

      They would share my news:

      I am in here.

And trying to speak every day

      In some kind of way.

Though she cannot speak, Elizabeth Bonker writes poetry that shines a light on the hidden inner world of autism and the world around us. I Am in Here is the spiritual journey of a mother and daughter who refuse to give up hope, who celebrate their victories, and who keep moving forward despite the obstacles. Elizabeth’s poetry and her mother’s stirring storytelling combine in this inspirational book to proclaim that there is always a reason to take the next step–with hope.

    • Siete Hombres – (Spanish)

      $16.99

In Siete Hombres, New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas presents seven exquisitely crafted short portraits of widely known-but not well understood-Christian men, each of whom uniquely showcases a commitment to live by certain virtues in the truth of the gospel.

Written in a beautiful and engaging style, Siete Hombres addresses what it means (or should mean) to be a man today, at a time when media and popular culture present images of masculinity that are not the picture presented in Scripture and historic civil life. What does it take to be a true exemplar as a father, brother, husband, leader, coach, counselor, change agent, and wise man? What does it mean to stand for honesty, courage, and charity, especially at times when the culture and the world run counter to those values?

Each of the seven biographies represents the life of a man who experienced the struggles and challenges to be strong in the face of forces and circumstances that would have destroyed the resolve of lesser men. Each of the seven men profiled-George Washington, William Wilberforce, Eric

Flying home to New York I pictured my boxes of diaries being delivered, driven like a western covered wagon train slowly rolling across America. Back in hometown the collection of stories grew by searching for a church, new jobs, another dog and stumbling in and out of love.

January of 2002 after having major surgery I began reading 240 diaries and shaping events. Honoring God by illuminating my trials and blessings was my motive for writing. Telling the story of God’s love became my objective. By 2007 I quit one part time job to carve out quality time as writing matured into a daily labor of love.

In March 2012 I discovered Westbow Press. Prayerfully putting my manuscript into the hands of their editor’s, the hard work of rewriting progressed. $19.99

They all thought he was gone. But he was alive and trapped inside his own body for ten years.

In January 1988 Martin Pistorius, aged twelve, fell inexplicably sick. First he lost his voice and stopped eating. Then he slept constantly and shunned human contact. Doctors were mystified. Within eighteen months he was mute and wheelchair-bound. Martin’s parents were told an unknown degenerative disease left him with the mind of a baby and less than two years to live.

Martin was moved to care centers for severely disabled children. The stress and heartache shook his parents’ marriage and their family to the core. Their boy was gone. Or so they thought.

Ghost Boy is the heart-wrenching story of one boy’s return to life through the power of love and faith. In these pages, readers see a parent’s resilience, the consequences of misdiagnosis, abuse at the hands of cruel caretakers, and the unthinkable duration of Martin’s mental alertness betrayed by his lifeless body.

We also see a life reclaimed-a business created, a new love kindled-all from a wheelchair. Martin’s emergence from his own darkness invites us to celebrate our own lives and fight for a better life for others.

Joining her husband in the fight to create a home out of a rugged stretch of sagebrush, rattlesnakes, and sand in Eastern Oregon, Jane Kirkpatrick uneasily relinquishes the security of a professional career; the convenience of electricity, running water, and a phone line; and, perhaps most daunting, the pleasures of sporting a professional manicure. But the pull of the land is irresistible, and the couple dreams of gathering their first harvest from a yet-to-be-planted vineyard.

Rather than the simple life they had envisioned, Jane and Jerry find themselves confronting flood and fire, government bureaucracies, and runaway calves, among other disheartening setbacks. Jane frequently questions the sanity of pioneering in this remote area, known as Starvation Point, and she fights against panic with each trip they make down the seven-mile, boulder-strewn, rut-carved “driveway” she calls “the reptile road,” which threatens to spill them into the ravine with every lurch of the truck.

But as she learns to navigate her new life, this novice rancher discovers that disappointment, isolation, and danger can’t compete with the generosity of their rural community, the strength of family bonds, and the faithfulness of the God who planted in their hearts the dream of carving a refuge out of an inhospitable land.

In her first book, God Signs & Dad Stories, Christian author Paula Pettis memorializes the memory of her late dad, Russell Pettis, through collected stories of his life. The first section of the book chronicles Russell’s upbringing in Wisconsin during the Great Depression, when poverty was prevalent but family love abounding, as well as his time spent sailing in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later in other branches. Paula presents a touching tribute to her father in the second half of the book, recalling the months spent caring for her aging parent in hospital ICUs and through countless doctor visits. Yet through prayer, support from loved ones and unexplainable signs from God, she created treasured moments with her earthly father that celebrated her Heavenly Father.

    • Frankly Speaking : Four Decades On The Air And Off A Memoir

      $22.48

Frank Reed and I share a long history together. For over 20 years it’s always been a pleasure to join Frank on the radio, or have him introduce me in concert. He’s been a supportive friend and the consummate professional. I always love when Frank shares his stories and now they’re all captured here, in ‘Frankly Speaking.’ His journey through secular radio, to finding Christ, his wife Patti, and his on air ‘home’ at KLTY in Dallas-Ft. Worth. It’s an address I hope he keeps for years to come! Within these pages you have the opportunity to look into the heart of the man behind the microphone, my good friend Frank Reed. Steven Curtis Chapman, Nashville, Tennessee I’ve always known that Frank had a way with words. For twenty-plus years I’ve laughed and cried as his rich voice inspired and informed listeners of all ages on KLTY Radio in Dallas. So it’s no surprise that the man who has held my attention behind the microphone carried that same authenticity and character to the written page. Yet, here I found more to the man than just the incredible ‘radio’ voice-celebrity. In the pages of his book, I found a jazzy wordsmith willing to share his authentic and sometimes painful journey. And once again, I found myself laughing, crying, and learning as he shared his journey of career, family, and faith. At some point, (as is often the case with many of my morning drives listening) I found myself wishing it didn’t have to end so soon. Dan Dean, Phillips, Craig and Dean, Colleyville, Texas ‘Frankly Speaking’, A Memoir, is the personal life journey of Dallas-Ft. Worth radio personality Frank Reed. From his humble beginnings in Kissimmee, Florida, to the halls of Rockefeller Plaza in New York where he worked on the air between Don Imus and Howard Stern, to his current radio address at KLTY in North Texas, Reed shares the adventures, stories and insights that led to the spiritual truths that now guide his life.

    • Mere Believers : How Eight Faithful Lives Changed The Course Of History

      $26.00

Does God use flawed people despite their shortcomings? Mere Believers tells the stories of eight remarkable men and women living in tumultuous times, revealing surprising and inspirational answers.

William Wilberforce defined Christian as ”a pilgrim travelling on business through a strange country.” In Mere Believers, historian Marc Baer examines eight Christian figures from the past, indicating how their conversion not only directed them to new vocations (”travelling on business”), but also impacted in profoundly positive ways the society and culture of that ”strange country” they called home. The book reveals how faithful lives can have revolutionary consequences, offering poignant models for vocational discernment and spiritual formation. Mere Believers helps readers engage our own times better by bringing them into conversation with courageous Christians of the past.

The subjects represent a variety of Christian traditions. They are male and female, black and white, English, Welsh, Scottish, and an African immigrant. Mere Believers reveals how what we believe is the legacy of what they achieved, that some of the best minds and hearts in the past have been committed, culturally wise Christians, and in turn how their lives and worldviews have shaped our own–including, paradoxically, those who reject Christianity.

    • Blush : A Mennonite Girl Meets The Glittering World

      $15.99

      19 Chapters

      Additional Info
“I promise: you will be transported,” says Bill Moyers of this memoir. Part Mennonite in a Little Black Dress, part Growing Up Amish, and part Little House on the Prairie, this book evokes a lost time, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, when a sheltered little girl with big dreams entered a family and church caught up in the midst of the cultural changes of the 1950’s and `60’s. With gentle humor and clear-eyed affection the author, who grew up to become a college president, tells the story of her first encounters with the “glittering world” and her desire for “fancy” forbidden things she could see but not touch.

The reader enters a plain Mennonite Church building, walks through the meadow, makes sweet and sour feasts in the kitchen and watches the little girl grow up. Along the way, five other children enter the family, one baby sister dies, the family moves to the “home place.” The major decisions, whether to join the church, and whether to leave home and become the first person in her family to attend college, will have the reader rooting for the girl to break a new path. In the tradition of Jill Ker Conway’s The Road to Coorain, this book details the formation of a future leader who does not yet know she’s being prepared to stand up to power and to find her own voice.

The book contains many illustrations and resources, including recipes, a map, and an epilogue about why the author is still Mennonite. Topics covered include the death of a child, Pennsylvania Dutch cooking, the role of bishops in the Mennonite church, the paradoxes of plain life (including fancy cars and the practice of growing tobacco). The drama of passing on the family farm and Mennonite romance and courtship, as the author prepares to leave home for college, create the final challenges of the book.

    • Good Pope : The Making Of A Saint And The Remaking Of The Church The Story

      $15.99

On the fiftieth anniversary of Pope John XXIII’s opening of the Vatican Council II in October 1962 and of his death in June 1963, as well as for his likely canonization in 2013, Greg Tobin celebrates the “Good Pope” as a profile of a greatly beloved religious figure who ushered in an era of hope and openness; and it is this “openness” that powerful internal forces have been battling ever since, causing many of the Catholic crises we see today.

This profile examines Pope John XXIII, the “Good Pope,” as a greatly beloved figure who ushered in an era of hope and openness in the Catholic church. Had the Good Pope’s reforms been accepted, the church could have avoided many of crises associated with it today.

Fifty years after he convened the Second Vatican Council, Pope John XXIII remains one of the most beloved and remarkable figures in the history of the Catholic Church. Affectionately known as Il Buono Papa, or the Good Pope, John is remembered today by Catholics and non-Catholics alike as an enduring symbol of peace, ecumenicalism, and Christian spirituality. In The Good Pope, Greg Tobin recounts John’s remarkable story, from his impoverished childhood in Bergamo, Italy, and his successful tenure as a papal ambassador in war-torn Europe to his surprise ascendancy to the throne of St. Peter. In the process, he traces John’s legacy as the spiritual father of the modern Church and explains why the Good Pope and his great council are as vital, vibrant, and important to Catholicism as ever before. Meticulously researched and engaging, The Good Pope captures the heart, soul, and spirit of the man who ushered in a new era of religion in the twentieth century.

      $14.99

These are the firsthand accounts of sisters Helen and Barbara Shores growing up with their father, Arthur Shores, a prominent Civil Rights attorney, during the 60s in the Jim Crow south Birmingham district—a frequent target of the Ku Klux Klan. Between 1948 and 1963, some 50 unsolved Klan bombings happened in Smithfield where the Shores family lived, earning their neighborhood the nickname ‘Dynamite Hill.’

Due to his work, Shores’ daughter, Barbara, barely survived a kidnapping attempt. Twice, in 1963, Klan members bombed their home, sending Theodora to the hospital with a brain concussion and killing Tasso, the family’s cocker spaniel. The family narrowly escaped a third bombing attempt on their home in the spring of 1965.

The Gentle Giant of Dynamite Hill is an incredible story of a family’s unfair suffering, but also of the Shores’ overcoming. This family’s sacrificial commitment, courage, determination, and triumph inspire us today through this story and the selfless service, work, and lives of Helen Shores Lee and Barbara Sylvia Shores.
