Wright provides a daily devotional for the Lent and Easter season. Each day includes his translation of a Scripture passage, words of reflection, and questions for reflection or discussion.

Think, pray, and reflect through the stories of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

The church has always known, intuitively even, that the best way for us to be shaped into the people God wants us to be-the people whose difference from the world around is vital to our witness-is to think and pray slowly and carefully through the stories of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. In From Wilderness to Glory, best-selling and beloved author N. T. Wright encourages readers to do just that throughout the seasons of Lent and Easter.

Wright opens each day’s devotion with a carefully chosen Scripture selection, and then provides his insightful reflection that not only digs into the reading but also highlights how today’s Christians experience the gospel. He ends each day with thought-provoking discussion questions, prompting readers in both individual and group study settings to ponder the significance of Jesus’ actions, teachings, and relationships.

    • Challenge Of Acts

Original price was: $29.99.Current price is: $20.99.

A new and inviting introduction to the Acts of the Apostles from New Testament scholar and theologian N. T. Wright.

Acts is a substantial book. It sits right in the middle of the New Testament, looking back to the four Gospels and ahead to the mission of the early church. It provides a framework for our understanding of the letters; but it does more than that. Acts offers a sophisticated and nuanced view of what it means to think of the gospel of Jesus, Israel’s Messiah, going out into the world over which Israel’s Messiah claims the status of Lord.

This Christian movement and thinking, detailed in Acts, entailed confronting the wider culture of the Greek and Roman world, as well as the culture of the Jewish world, which provides us today with an important message as we ourselves face new questions about gospel and contemporary culture.

From the renowned author of Into the Heart of Romans, N. T. Wright brings to the book of Acts his expert’s eye on theological nuance and cultural context, distilling it down into an introductory commentary, perfect for anyone looking to take their own reading a little deeper and discover the profound (and often forgotten) potential of the church and the Way of Jesus Christ.

    • Jesus And The Powers

      $22.99

An urgent call for Christians everywhere to explore the nature of the kingdom amid the political upheaval of our day.

Should Christians be politically withdrawn, avoiding participation in politics to maintain their prophetic voice and to keep from being used as political pawns? Or should Christians be actively involved, seeking to utilize political systems to control the levers of power?

In Jesus and the Powers, N. T. Wright and Michael F. Bird call Christians everywhere to discern the nature of Christian witness in fractured political environments. In an age of ascending autocracies, in a time of fear and fragmentation, amid carnage and crises, Jesus is king, and Jesus’s kingdom remains the object of the church’s witness and work.

Part political theology, part biblical overview, and part church history, this book argues that building for Jesus’s kingdom requires confronting empire in all its forms. This approach should orient Christians toward a form of political engagement that contributes to free democratic societies and vigorously opposes political schemes based on autocracy and nationalism. Throughout, Wright and Bird reflect on the relevance of this kingdom-oriented approach to current events, including the Russian-Ukraine conflict, the China-Taiwan tension, political turmoil in the USA, UK, and Australia, and the problem of Christian nationalism.

    • Challenge Of Jesus

      $22.99

In the midst of many well-publicized and controversial books on Jesus, N. T. Wright’s lectures and writings have been widely recognized for providing a fresh, provocative, and credible portrait.

Originally published in 1999 and with a new introduction in 2015, The Challenge of Jesus presents an accessible introduction to the “quest for the historical Jesus” and why it matters for the Christian faith. Out of his own commitment to both historical scholarship and Christian ministry, Wright challenges us to roll up our sleeves and take seriously the study of the historical Jesus. He writes, “Many Christians have been, frankly, sloppy in their thinking and talking about Jesus, and hence, sadly, in their praying and in their practice of discipleship. . . . Only by hard, historical work can we move toward a fuller comprehension of what the Gospels themselves were trying to say.” This classic work is now available as part of the IVP Signature Collection, which features special editions of iconic books in celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of InterVarsity Press.

    • What Did The Cross Accomplish

      $28.00

In this book, readers will enjoy a fascinating and cordial discussion between N. T. Wright and Simon Gathercole on the meaning and nature of the doctrine of atonement. These two highly respected scholars discuss in clear and understandable language the meanings of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Their discussion explores various theories of atonement and looks closely at the Old Testament to discover Paul’s meaning of his words that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures.

Wright presents his case first, then Gathercole responds with a contrary point of view. Their discussion confronts questions including: What exactly is this “scandal of the cross”? What role does the notion of sacrifice, as understood in its ancient context, play in the atonement of Christ? Is the atonement a “victory”? How so? Was Christ a “substitute,” taking humankind’s place on the cross and suffering the death and judgment that sinners deserve? How does the death of Christ on the cross rescue or liberate sinners from death? Does the cross achieve benefits for only humans, or do those benefits extend to the entirety of creation? This book is a succinct conversation in which all these questions receive attention, with nuanced differences between the two interlocutors. This conversation along with Robert Stewart’s introductory framework make this book an excellent primer to the study of the atonement, and readers will come away with a deeper understanding of the meanings of the cross.

    • God And The Pandemic

      $11.99

Discover a different way of seeing and responding to the Coronavirus pandemic, an approach drawing on Scripture, Christian history, and the way of living, thinking, and praying revealed to us by Jesus.

What are we supposed to think about the Coronavirus crisis?

Some people think they know: “This is a sign of the End,” they say. “It’s all predicted in the book of Revelation.”

Others disagree but are equally clear: “This is a call to repent. God is judging the world and through this disease he’s telling us to change.”

Some join in the chorus of blame and condemnation: “It’s the fault of the Chinese, the government, the World Health Organization…”

      N. T. Wright examines these reactions to the virus and finds them wanting. Instead, he shows that a careful reading of the Bible and Christian history offers simple though profound answers to our many questions, including:
*What should be the Christian response?
*How should we think about God?
*How do we live in the present?
      *Why should we lament?
*What should we learn about ourselves?
      *How do we recover?

Written by one of the world’s foremost New Testament scholars, God and the Pandemic will serve as your guide to read the events of today through the light of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

    • History And Eschatology

      $66.65

How can we know about God? That question increasingly bothered scientists and philosophers in the modern period as they chipped away at previously imagined “certainties.” They refused to take on trust the “special revelation” of the Christian Bible, trying instead to argue up to God from the “natural” world. That is the theme of the Gifford Lectures, inaugurated over 130 years ago.

This natural theology has usually bracketed out the Bible and Jesus?and with them, usually, the scholars who study them.

History and Eschatology: Jesus and the Promise of Natural Theology represents the first Gifford delivered by a New Testament scholar since Rudolf Bultmann in 1955. Against Bultmann’s dehistoricized approach, N. T. Wright argues that, since the philosophical and cultural movements that generated the natural theology debates also treated Jesus as a genuine human being?part of the “natural world”?there is no reason the historical Jesus should be off-limits. What would happen if we brought him back into the discussion? What, in particular, might “history” and “eschatology” really mean? And what might that say about “knowledge” itself?

This lively and wide-ranging discussion invites us to see Jesus himself in a different light by better acquainting ourselves with the first-century Jewish world. Genuine historical study challenges not only what we thought we knew but how we know it. The crucifixion of the subsequently resurrected Jesus, as solid an event as any in the “natural” world, turns out to meet, in unexpected and suggestive ways, the puzzles of the ultimate questions asked by every culture. At the same time, these events open up vistas of the eschatological promise held out to the entire natural order. The result is a larger vision, both of “natural theology” and of Jesus himself, than either the academy or the church has normally expected.

    • Justification : Gods Plan And Pauls Vision

      $32.99

Few issues are more central to the Christian faith than the nature, scope and means of salvation. Many have thought it to be largely a transaction that gets one to heaven. In this riveting book, N. T. Wright explains that God’s salvation is radically more than this. At the heart of much vigorous debate on this topic is the term the apostle Paul uses in several of his letters to describe what happens to those in Christ-justification. Paul uses this dramatic image from the law court to declare that Christians are acquitted of the cosmic accusations against them. But justification goes beyond this in Paul’s writings to offer a vision of God’s future for the whole world as well as for his people. Here in one place Wright now offers a comprehensive account and defense of his perspective on this crucial doctrine. He provides a sweeping overview of the central points in the debate before launching into a thorough explanation of the key texts in Paul’s writings. While fully cognizant of tradition and controversy, the final authority for his conclusions is the letters of Paul themselves. Along the way Wright responds to critics, such as John Piper, who have challenged what has come to be called the New Perspective. For Wright, what Paul means by justification is nothing less than God’s unswerving commitment to the covenant promise he made to bless the whole world through Abraham and his family. This irenic response is an important contribution for those on both sides of the debate-and those still in between-to consider. Whether you’re a fan of Wright’s work or have read his critics and would like to know the other side of the story, here is a chance to interact with Wright’s views on the issues at stake and form your own conclusions.

    • Who Was Jesus

      $20.99

Originally published in 1993 and reprinted numerous times, N. T. Wright’s Who Was Jesus? considers many questions raised by three controversial books about Jesus: Barbara Thiering’s Jesus the Man, A. N. Wilson’s Jesus: A Life, and John Shelby Spong’s Born of a Woman. While Wright agrees with those authors that the real, historical Jesus has many surprises in store for institutional Christianity, he also presents solid reasons for discounting their arguments, claiming that they “fail to reach anything like the answer” as to who Jesus really was.Written from the standpoint of professional biblical scholarship yet assuming no prior knowledge of the subject, Who Was Jesus? shows convincingly that much can be gained from a rigorous historical assessment of what the Gospels say about Jesus. This is a book to engage skeptics and believers alike.

Part Two contains five sermons and one biblical exposition on such themes as the meaning of the resurrection, the call of God, and the nature of the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

      $115.00

This companion volume to Paul and the Faithfulness of God and Paul and His Recent Interpreters brings together N. T. Wright’s most important articles on Paul and his letters over the last three decades. The book begins with Wright’s auspicious essay of 1978, when as a young, aspiring scholar he gave the annual Tyndale lecture in Cambridge, and proposed, for the first time, “a new perspective” on Pauline theology. The book ends with an expanded version of a paper he gave in Leuven in 2012, when as a seasoned scholar at the height of his powers, he explored the foundational role of Abraham in Romans and Galatians. In all, the thirty-three articles published here provide a rich feast for all students of Paul, both seasoned and aspiring. Each one will amply reward those looking for detailed, incisive and exquisitely nuanced exegesis, resulting in a clearer, deeper and more informed appreciation of Paul’s great theological achievement.

In his letters, John expresses delight at believers who are “walking in the truth”: behaving with that integrity which reflects the gospel. This involves not just correct doctrine and proper outward behavior, but also love for God and fellow believers. It’s this love, John writes, that shows that the truth of the gospel has really been grasped, not as an abstract idea but as what it is, the very life of God himself at work in his people.

These nine studies from Tom Wright help us become believers who are “walking in the truth” in our own day–people in whom the very life of God is at work for all to see.

    • Surprised By Hope

      $15.99

For years Christians have been asking, “If you died tonight, do you know where you would go?” It turns out Christians have been giving the wrong answer. It is not heaven.

One of today’s premier Bible scholars and award-winning author N.T. Wright outlines the present confusion about a Christian’s future hope and shows how it is deeply intertwined with how we live today. Wright shows that Christianity’s most distinctive idea is bodily resurrection. First, he provides a magisterial defense of a literal resurrection of Jesus himself. This became the cornerstone for the Christian community’s hope in the bodily resurrection of all people at the end of the age. Next Wright explores our expectation of “new heavens and new earth,” showing what happens to the dead until then and what will happen with the “second coming” of Jesus. For many, including many Christians, all this will come as a great surprise.

Wright convincingly argues that what we believe about life after death directly affects what we believe about life before death. For if God intends to renew the whole creation – and if this has already begun in Jesus’s resurrection – the church cannot stop at “saving souls” but must anticipate the eventual renewal by working for God’s kingdom in the wider world, bringing healing and hope in the present life.

Lively and accessible, this book will surprise and excite all who are interested in the meaning of life, not only after death but, before it.

For many Jewish Christians of the first century, living in the light of the gospel was challenging. Having accepted Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah, they were regarded by still-skeptical family, friends and neighbors as dangerous, misguided and even disloyal to all that God had said earlier on. The letter to the Hebrews was written to show that you can’t go back to an earlier stage of God’s purposes but must press on eagerly to the one that is yet to come. In these studies by Tom Wright we find encouragement and assurance that pressing on, even in the face of such close and constant pressure to fall back, is its own reward.

Paul’s project, he often says, is building–not building with bricks and mortar but rather with people. In a world of widespread ethnic rivalry and trenchant divisiveness, Paul’s strong corrective message in Galatians demands to be heard and reheard. In these studies by Tom Wright, we hear once again what remains shockingly good news.

    • 2 Corinthians : 13 Studies For Individuals And Groups

      $12.99

Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians explores the meaning of the cross in terms of personal suffering–his own, and that of all the Messiah’s people. If in Galatians he is angry, if in Philippians he is joyful, in this letter his deep sorrow and the raw wounds of his own recent suffering are very apparent. Yet he is determined to view all of his suffering and all of the troubles of the world through the lens of the gospel. These studies by Tom Wright on this powerful epistle point us toward the strange comfort to be found in the suffering, death and resurrection-life of Jesus, the Lord of the world.

    • Acts : 13 Studies For Individuals And Groups

      $12.99

The mysterious presence of Jesus haunts the whole story of Acts. Jesus is announced as King and Lord, not as an increasingly distant memory but as a living and powerful reality, a person who can be known and loved, obeyed and followed, a person who continues to act within the real world. We call the book “The Acts of the Apostles,” but we should think of it as “The Acts of Jesus (II).” These studies from Tom Wright help us to do so, and to see how Jesus’ acts through the apostles inform our acts today.

    • Paul : In Fresh Perspective

      $75.00

The letters of the Apostle Paul changed the world like no others before or since, and they continue to strike us afresh with their panoramic vision of human history and destiny.

Preeminent New Testament scholar and churchman N. T. Wright here offers a fresh perspective on the Apostle Paul’s content and convictions. Wright ranks Paul as “one of the most powerful and seminal minds of the first or any century,” endlessly engaging and perennially elusive. Yet, with recent research, Wright argues, we can now sketch with confidence a new and more nuanced picture of the Apostle and the radical way in which his encounter with Jesus redefined his life, his whole thought-world, his mission, and his expectations for a world made new in Christ. The result: a masterful, engaging, and enlightening portrait that situates Paul in his time and for our own.

    • For All The Saints

      $16.95

“We have been drifting into a muddle and a mess, putting together bits and pieces of traditions, ideas and practices in the hope that they will make sense. They don’t. There may be times when a typical Anglican fudge is a pleasant, chewy sort of thing, but this isn’t one of them. It’s time to think and speak clearly and act decisively.”
With these robust words Tom Wright, Bishop of Durham, throws down a challenge to current liturgy and practice surrounding All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, and sets out to clarify our thinking about what happens to people after they die. Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory, what it means to pray for the dead, what (and who) are the saints, are all addressed in this invigorating and rigorously argued book.

    • Romans And The People Of God A Print On Demand Title

      $33.99

A great deal of scholarly energy of late has been dedicated to the interpretation of Romans.
The intense debate concerning Paul and the law has led some scholars to reevaluate long-held positions with regard to Paul’s great letter, while other scholars are seeking fresh formulations of deep -rooted convictions. In addition, there are ongoing investigations into Paul’s sophisticated use of Old Testament traditions, his mastery of subtle rhetorical devices, his use of Spirit language, and his formulation of missiological principles. Classical themes such as the fatherhood of God and the divine sonship of Jesus are in continual need of refinement, as are the practical implications of the Pauline perspectives for contemporary living and ministry.

All of these topics and others are dealt with in this superb collection of essays on Romans presented to Gordon D. Fee on the occasion of his 65th birthday. The contributors, themselves all New Testament scholars of international standing, come from a wide circle of Gordon’s friends and associates. Their explorations into various exegetical, theological, and pastoral aspects of Romans not only serve as a fitting tribute to Gordon’s own work in New Testament scholarship but also represent the very best studies available in this critical area of biblical research.

That this is a lively collection of essays is entirely appropriate for a very “lively” scholar and lecturer. Formerly of Southern California College, Wheaton College, and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Gordon has served for the last thirteen years as Professor of New Testament at Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia. His worldwide teaching/preaching ministry has taken him from the Philippines to Croatia, from India to Sweden, and many places in between. His many publications, catalogued at the back of this book, speak for themselves.

Never ashamed of his Pentecostal background, Gordon has made a significant mark on biblical scholarship by calling for and demonstrating in his own life the integration of heart and mind, Word and Spirit. The essays included in this symposium are intended both to honor that contribution and to further the kind of scholarship that has motivated the life work of this much loved and respected colleague.
