They only tasted the good Word of God. They did not eat the word of God. They did not assimilate: “(to take in and appropriate as nourishment, absorb into the system or to take into the mind and thoroughly comprehend ),” the word of God.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh.
