Why should you watch a video Bible study about wine in the Bible? What role might wine have in the life of a Christian, or even in the life of the church? As Christians, aren’t we committed to truly spiritual things, building up the body of Christ and seeing the Kingdom of God coming down to earth? Surely wine doesn’t have anything to do with that. He was known to hang out with the rough-and-ready of society, enjoying wine with saints and sinners alike. He surely did not fit into the spiritual vision of his own people and offended the religious status quo seemingly wherever he went.
Do you feel uncomfortable with the idea that wine is a spiritual gift? Perhaps you feel slightly sinful for indulging in a glass of wine or overly afraid that wine might be the devil’s tool of temptation. And we’ve all seen the abuses that can happen with alcohol. They belong together ever since Noah planted his first vineyard close to Mount Ararat. Though Noah was also the first person in the Bible to get drunk, his vocation as a vintner set the stage for wine to become the most talked about food in the Bible.
